This sounds like a special beer, perfect for curling up with on a chilly November evening.

I’ll have to look out for it, but I’m not sure I’ll find it – I’ve never seen a 750ml bottle of Flying Dog before. Don’t know why that’d change now.

Also, either you have a really big glass, or you’re playing with pictures again!

JIm, found it at the Liquor Outlet in Boonton. I thought since it was such a big bottle of german style beer I’d use a big ass liter glass. Might as well have fun with it!

Yeah-I had this beer on tap at a pub in Sweden, and was VERY much impressed—so much so that I went back to the pub later that same day, to have another pint—even though they were ridicously overpriced–something like (the equivalent of) $10 a pint—-but it was just a perfect smokiness to it—like was said in the review-excellent, but not overpowering smoke flavor–with a nice sweet undertone—————-mmmmmmm—anyway–if you ever see this beer on tap—GET IT!

I just had this beer on tap here in Charlotte Saturday night. I’m not going to break down the experience, since you’ve done so very well here, but suffice it to say I loved this beer.

I know it’s probably sacrilege, but I think I liked it better than the Schlenkerla Fastenbier I had. Yes, they’re very different beers, but it’s the only other Rauchbier I’ve had (unless you count smoked porters as Rauchbiers, but I don’t think they qualify).

    Nice review.

I think I’d have to agree with you. It is a wonderful beer! Where the hell did you find this on draft? It hasn’t been made for almost 2 yrs! I still have 2 or 3 bottles left. Saving them for a future tasting. I hope Flying dog makes this again!

I think they brought it back in limited amounts.

I found it on draft at Vintner Wine Market in Charlotte, NC. They are quietly becoming one of Charlotte’s better craft beer retailers, even though most don’t know it because of their name.

They only have 16 taps, but they are always quality.

Thats NICE! nothing wrong with 16 taps. More does not mean better! in fact if there is slow turnover from taps, you get dirty lines = bad beer.
