Flying Dog Woody Creek White
Another summer beer for me to try. Saw this at the liquor store today and I was in the mood to try a new summer witbier. As with typical witbier or white beers, the Woody Creek White is brewed with coriander and orange peel.
Appearance:
The beer poured a hazy orange color, as I was expecting from a Belgian Style Wit. Nice white head with a bit of lacing. I poured the whole bottle, into a pint glass and there was a bit of orange sediment that was sprinkled across the top of the foam. Kind of looked like cinnamon on a latte.
Aroma:
Very lite on the aroma, subtle coriander and yeast notes. Nothing off putting or intriguing.
Taste:
This beer was refreshing as the style should be, dry and crisp. There was a bit of tang from the bitter orange peel that really worked well with the dryness and the bit of hop spice on the finish.
Overall Impression:
Great hot weather beer. I could drink these all day on summer day in front of the bbq. Good flavor and refreshing.
Glassware: Common Pint
Calories: 4.8% abv on a dry beer would be about 160-165 calories (see calorie calculator), but the Flying Dog website, lists the Plato of the beer as 11.7, so to get 4.8%abv, the final Plato would be about 2.7 resulting in 160 calories per 12 oz.
Simply Beer Rating: 89
Hopefully we can get some of this before the end of summer. Apparently one of the local distributors and Flying Dog had some sort of disagreement some time back and we started not getting Flying Dog brews for a while but I have been told they will be back here shortly. So here’s to hoping I can get some of this with Gonzo and Double Dog.
love the double dog!
A little disappointed with this one. A fair example of the style but almost too true to it. A little more pop would have been appreciated.
