Preview – Beer Brawl™ 30 – Session Beer Throw Down

As I’ve said before I love drinking beer with other beer geeks and when Kevin Malavrca from the Liquor Outlet in Boonton NJ threw down this challenge I was all for it!  Beer Brawl™ 30 is going to change each of to bring our 2 favorite session beers to the table.  If you don’t know what a session beer is, we are defining it, for this challenge, as a beer less then 5.5% abv, any style goes.

The Players:

Peter Kennedy – Simply Beer

Kevin Malavarca – Beer Manager, Liquor Outlet

John Hoyos – Hunterdon Distributors

Jim Galligan – Beer and Whiskey Brotherhood

So now you know the players, how about the beer?  This was a hard choice for me, because I don’t really do session beer drinking, since most of what I drink I write reviews on.  If I do session beers chances are they are 6-9% abv, not 3-5%.  So… after much internal debate, loss of sleep, and anxiety over what to choice, Here is my choice along with Kevin’s, John’s, and Jim’s.

The Beers:

Peter – Stone Levitation & Victory Prima Pils

Kevin – Left Hand Sawtooth & Victory Lager

John – Avery Redpoint Ale & Dupont Avril

Jim – Troegs Pale Ale & Anchor Steam

This should be interesting with such common beers how they stack up with each other.  Of the 8 beers I have not had 3 of them.  Looking at this list, it makes me thing of what our definitions of a session beer are.  Had it been the summer and hot out I think I might have thrown in the Bruery Hottenroth.

What are your favorite session beers?
