Private Weissbier-Brauerei Aventinus Wheat Doppelbock
I don’t drink many bocks, probably even less doppelbocks. For some reason, whether some had mentioned it to me, I saw the Aventinus Wheat-Doppelbock in my local beer store and had to try it.
Pour:
Word of warning, respect the pour with this beer. This beer pours with a monstrous head, make sure you leave a good 1.5 inches at the top of the glass for the head. I gave it a gentle pour and right at the end the head exploded, it was really cool!
Appearance:
Beer was a muddy brown, lots of carbonation, and a big, white, frothy monstrous head.
Aroma:
There was a surprisingly very strong yeasty alcohol aroma with a nice spicy clove undertone.
Taste:
WOW! Totally unexpected, the aroma does not match the flavor. The beer has a very pronounced banana bread flavor, smooth and delicious! The banana flavor is nicely balanced with a finishing note of clove.
Drinkability:
Superb! The 8.2% abv really hit me in the head, not sure why… but nonetheless a very good beer.
Tasting Method: Pint Bottle
My Rating: 9.5
