Beer Store Review : Gary’s – Wayne NJ
There were a couple of comments on another Beer Store Review that said I should check out Gary’s in Wayne NJ. Well, I was listening. I went there on July 1st to see what they had.
The store is huge, about the size of a medium size grocery store, they had fresh flowers, a big selection of cheese, and what looked to be a fairly substantial selection of wine and spirts. But, as we all know I’m in it for the beer! The beer isle is the last isle in the store, and much of it is in the cold case. There was a small section of craft and imported specialty beer, nothing really to write home about. If you are looking for Allagash, Rogue, Stone, or Southern Tier beer, they have a good selction of these but otherwise it was not a store where you can find rare, unique, or limited run beers.
The one thing I did like about the store, it was extremely clean. Everything had a shine to it. The drawback, besides the selection, there was no one on the floor that I saw or talked to who knew about the beer. The one kid I talked to didn’t even look old enough to drink.
I did find some beer I wanted, here is the beer I bought:
- Allagash Four
- Allagash Curiex
- Legacy Brewing Hoptimus Prime
- Ommegang Belgian Style Dubbel
- Rogue Mocha Porter
- Southern Tier Unearthly IPA

ive been there, gotten some decent beers from there
Yes, decent but not spectacular. Hope I didn’t waste your time. If you’re in Manhattan, check out the Bowery Beer Room at Whole Foods. They have six rotating taps filling growlers and roughly every other week they have a brewer in for a tasting. You get to sample the brews before filling your growler. Works for me. Next up is Lagunitas http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/stores/bowery/beerroom.php
