My wife and I are on a quest to find her 10 beers over the next 3 months that she can enjoy! We have found very few beers that she has enjoyed. I decided to go big on this next beer and hit another extreme beer. The Bruery’s Coton is their 2nd anniversary ale, it is a 14.5% abv beer. 25% of this beer was aged in bourbon barrels.

This was literally like having cough syrup. Anything that’s got a thick fruity smell and tastes too fruity just isn’t my thing. Peter says I am making an enthusiastic effort…I say I’m trying to figure out if/when I’ll start getting beers I like.Maybe I can just drink that Brooklyn Beer 10x and it will count as my 10 beers? |

I wasn’t sure that Dani was going to like this one, It is a huge beer, almost 15% abv, 75% old ale and 25% Bourbon Barrel aged ale. For me this beer doesn’t disappoint it comes out huge and goes down strong. The Bourbon, vanilla, oak, and port flavors are intense and luscious. I have a 100% barrel aged version which I’m going to save for at least a year or two, since this beer was pretty hot on the alcohol, which should mellow out nicely over the next couple of years. One thing I’m finding is Dani is not liking many of the beers that have huge strong aromas up front, like this one. But even though the aroma is hard for her to get past, she is making an enthusiastic effort to continue trying these beer with me. |

This concept is so awesome. I’ve played this through in my head dozens of times, but my wife just does not like beer. I broke out some awesome choices when my mom visited and gave my wife and M-I-L some too, but even though they say it was good, you could tell they were bullshitting me.
But it’s Go Time! Very soon, tomorrow if I have the nerve, she’s gonna try and give thoughts on Southern Tier Creme Brulee Stout. And if she bitches one time about calories, I will probably just go to some dive bar and mope. LOL.
I love this concept too and My wife has been very cool about try some of these! We tried the Creme Brulee Stout as our first one. Neither one of us liked it. It is a tough beer to sell, IMO. Good Luck Rob, let us know how it goes!
The Creme Brulee Stout IS a tough one to sell, I agree. I could have no more than a mere 2-4 oz tasting of it. At any rate, I’m intrigued by this one you’ve chosen, Peter. The Bruery has been getting a lot of press lately, and I’ve had none of their beers. Yet another one I have to try to see out now. Thanks Peter! 🙂
This is a great beer, if you like big bold and bourbon! 🙂
